Introduction
Welcome to the workshop.
I’ve been making and repairing guitars for over twenty years. I’ve always been interested in how things work and what to do when they don’t. Making music is an important part of my life and helping others to do the same has always been rewarding to me. I used to teach guitar to students of all ages and found that the entry level guitars they would bring always needed some work to get them to play well but that most were able to become versatile and practical instruments.
I’ve tried to avoid the guitar snobbery and hype behind big brands and accepted wisdom to experiment and find what works and what sounds good. Even many of the more expensive guitars need work out of the box so it’s not just the entry level gear that needs a good set up.
If an instrument is comfortable to play a few upgrades can make it sound like a much more expensive guitar in my opinion. Things like replacing the tuning machine heads and adjusting the nut slots can significantly improve tuning stability and replacing pickups can get the sound you desire from a guitar that is otherwise enjoyable to play.
If you’re just starting out or you’ve been playing for years a little care and maintenance will make things easier and more enjoyable and I want to help you get all you can from your instrument
